There are a few reasons why I don’t like The Last Battle. First of all, it starts off with creatures in Narnia, not the children. I understand the importance of it for background, but I would have preferred the first part to have been told from the children’s point of view (which was disclosed later). This probably is because I have a hard time getting into fantasy stories because they aren’t realistic, so I need a jumping off point that I can believe. Secondly, I hated the fact that Susan did not come back. She was my favorite (because I identified most with her). Allegorically, it makes it seems like she had lost her salvation because she started caring for the things of the world. I don’t know if Lewis intended this or not, but it bugs me. Lastly, I don’t like the part where Aslan is explaining to the devout Tash-worshipping Caloremen that he got to come to the new Narnia because you can only truly worship Aslan, and so the worship he actually gave to Tash passed on to the Aslan. What do you think of these things? The last two, I mean, because the first is just personal preference.
